The Port of Morrow is accepting applications for a LEAD MAINTENANCE WORKER/EQUIPMENT OPERATOR position.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Earthwork field and pipe installation.
  • Must have working knowledge of pipe types and fittings.
  • GPS experience, Machine control and Layout
  • Be able to work in all weather conditions 
  • Must have good public relation skills to communicate with customers, vendors, public, etc.
  • Must have good documentation skills for site conditions and work performed
  • Heavy Equipment operation knowledge
  • Pass pre-hire and random drug screening
  • Must have a valid driver license
  • Eager to work in a fast paced environment
  • Previous safety training preferred
  • Candidate must be willing to learn new procedures


General Statement of Duties:

Under general supervision, this position will lead a crew of 2 to 4 coworkers in installation of new pipe and repair of existing pipe lines focusing on SAFETY, QUALITY and PRODUCTION OF JOBS TO BE PERFORMED. Additionally will be required operates heavy motorized equipment and performs skilled maintenance of facilities, buildings, grounds and equipment at various sites. Performs additional duties as required.


Areas of Accountability:

Performs all activities required of a Lead Maintenance Worker/Equipment Operator - Consults with Port Shop Manager as required to prioritize and schedule work; Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems; Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.


Required Knowledge and Skills:

Considerable knowledge and skill in the operation of heavy motor equipment including but not limited to Grader, Dozer, Front End Loader, Scraper, Backhoe, Dump Truck, and Excavators under all types of weather conditions; good knowledge of traffic and safety rules and accident prevention practices; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to make minor repairs and adjust heavy equipment; good physical condition. Ability to make pipe repairs. Knowledge of public works construction and maintenance tools, equipment, materials and methods. Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.


Acceptable Experience and Training:

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; minimum 5 years in the Earth work field, GPS experience, Machine control and Layout, must have a valid class A Commercial Driver’s license that includes airbrake, tanker and doubles.

The Port of Morrow is an EOE and offers competitive wages and benefits. Wage will be between $24 to $29 per hour, depending on experience. Open until position is filled.
